Ephesus Amphitheater

Weathered stone seating rises in broad tiers around the ancient theater at Ephesus, with a vaulted entrance set into the upper wall and the open performance floor below. The surviving masonry evokes the civic world of the Roman province of Asia, where public assemblies, commerce, and religious devotion shaped daily life.

For Christian use, this site is closely associated with Paul’s ministry in Ephesus. In Acts 19, the city was stirred into an uproar when the gospel challenged the idol trade connected to Artemis, and the crowd rushed into the theater shouting in defense of their goddess. The empty seats and worn steps become a visual witness to the conflict between public idolatry and the proclamation of Christ, making this image useful for teaching on Acts, early church history, missions, and the spiritual cost of discipleship.
